About the Artist
I have always expressed myself artistically but it wasn’t until I attended Maine College of Art's summer program in 2001 that I discovered my love of working with metal. I began fabricating and learning the basic traits of working in metal. In my senior year of high school in 2002 I took a welding course and began to learn there was so much more I could do with metal. Attending college at Maine College of Art in the fall opened my mind to creating unique jewelry, staying away from traditional designs. Bringing sculptural concepts as well as two dimensional concepts to my work allowed me to express my emotions through my jewelry. I began working for a jewelry casting company as an apprentice in 2003. I learned every thing there was to know about production casting. There were so many new possibilities available to me. Working with wax and then casting it to metal allows me to create anything that comes to mind. There are so many more things that you can create with wax, where working straight from metal has some limitations. Wax leaves you questioning “what else can I make?” I choose to start from a blank piece of wax and let the piece transform into a design on its own. The inspiration for my work comes from everything and anything surrounding me. I love the natural flow of water and flowers which I bring to my pieces. My designs mainly come from my emotions and what is around me at the time. The result of this gives each of my designs their own personality and character.
