My process for creating lost wax cast silver and bronze designs...
As I embrace my creativity with a blank piece of wax, I allow my thoughts and emotions to lead my hands. Staying away from traditional designs, bringing sculptural and two-dimensional concepts to my jewelry allows me to express myself fully. My dreams are my most influential aspect of my art. The natural flow of water and the shapes of flowers influence the way I create my designs as well. With so many designs and shapes racing through my mind I’m forced to let go of the process and let my hands perceive these ideas, challenging myself with new creations. The result of this allows each of my designs to have their own distinctive personality and character. Creating and designing my jewelry from start to finish, incorporating the natural everyday flows of life allows me to express all of my influences in endless possibilities of jewelry designs. In turn, the once blank piece of wax is transformed into a work of expression, naturally developed on its own.
And then one morning I woke up and thought "I want to play around with copper"....
Over the years I have been creating different designs in copper repurposed from many local sources, pipes, washers, electrical wire, roofing, counter tops, etc. In many ways it's a different process than carving and creating in wax yet at the same time it's another expression of myself. Working with simple classic shapes and experimenting with natural patinas of copper lets me let go of the expected and enjoy the beauty in what becomes.
